Secret Technique for Painting Magic The Gathering Cards - Outlaws of Thunder Junction Set
In this video I go over the cards that I illustrated for Magic: the Gatherings newest set, Outlaws of Thunder Junction. I'm so happy to have gotten to work on Outlaws of Thunder Junction, these are my first released Magic cards in almost two years if I'm not mistaken and I will hopefully be having more to show after this. If you like this type of video or have suggestions for what else you'd like to see my talk about next time feel free to let me know in the comments.
Eventually, I plan on recording the process for one of the illustrations from start to finish, but for now I can just talk a little bit of behind the scenes process stuff. Whenever I have the full illustration process I promise to put it on UA-cam for free for everyone.
Thanks again for all of the support on these videos, almost at 30k subs, that's crazy. I really appreciate it!

3 Moments That My Art Failed - What Happens When a Client Doesn't Like Your Work?
Переглядів 21 тис.3 місяці тому
In this video I talk about three moments that I worked for a client on an image and failed. One story from early in my career, another was during my first painting for Magic: The Gathering, and finally a series of images I did for Legends of Runeterra. All of which were difficult in the moment, but I've learned a lot during those times and hope that I can help others feel more comfortable with ...
How to Paint With the Lasso Tool
Переглядів 90 тис.3 місяці тому
This video covers a common question I get about my process as well as goes over some general tips for painting more efficiently. I think I'll do some more videos in the future talking more about painting efficiency, in particular going over painting with fully opaque brushes as an exercise. As always, let me know if there are any other videos or content you'd like to see from me! I have a few m...
How To Paint ANY Material - Introduction to the Form Principle

In this video I go over all the basic aspects of the form principle as well as all the different attributes of materials when it comes to rendering. Obviously this is all keeping it pretty surface level and every material has it's own little quirks and unique qualities, but I sincerely think that thinking about these different elements when painting and studying materials makes it a million tim...
How I Became A Professional Artist Without Going To School
Переглядів 65 тис.4 місяці тому
This video covers my formative years of trying to work towards becoming a fulltime freelance artist. I go through tons of old images from the year 2010 when I started to take art more seriously, join communities, and draw a lot of bad stuff all the way to 2016 when I finally became fulltime and started working for higher paying companies in the industry. There seriously was so much footage that...
How I paint League of Legends Splash Art - Caitlyn Resistance Splash Art Process
Переглядів 106 тис.5 місяців тому
I've been asked about this video a lot and I finally quit being lazy and came out with it! This is my process video for how I generally worked on splash art images for games like League of Legends and Smite. I would've shown the whole 20 hour real time process video but honestly I don't know what I would've talked about to fill that time up and it would've had to be published as several videos....
Is AI Art ruining the games industry?

I occasionally stream on twitch and one question I get asked a lot about it AI and where the industry is going. I decided to clip some of the discussion from my latest stream and I hope it helps alleviate some fear and shed some light on where AI could be headed in the future. All of this is just my personal opinion, so take it with a grain of salt, feel free to tell me your personal thoughts a...

How much money do artists make?
Переглядів 10 тис.2 роки тому
Only took me about 2 years but I finally came out with another video! Not a lot of artists out there give the straight numbers related to commercial work in the games industry so I thought I'd do a video where I do just that. If you want to know how much artists make that work for Magic: The Gathering, Blizzard, Riot, etc. this is the video for that. If you feel there was any information that I...

UA-cam algo helped me out. I watched this video months ago. Then yesterday I watched a video by an artist was giving a lot of respect League's splash artist -- and it reminded me of you and this video. But i had no idea how to search for it. YT algo suggested it just now. Hooray! So now I'm finally starting to actually learn digital painting (software/theory etc) and wanted to watch you and other pros work again. I don't intend to be a pro, i just would love to be able to render like you do here.

I love the fact that you mentioned that for the 95% of the splash art you only used Hard Round Opacity and Soft Round brushes. Many folks (including myself) tend to completely overthink the brush preferences for artworks of such high fidelity.

i had to drop out of college for game design with animation as a minor due to the onset of severe mental issues. i lost all confidence in myself and got bogged in debt due to losing scholarships. this is really inspiring to me. currently i work in an office which is paying well for someone with no degree, but i can't see myself staying for decades there. i'm hoping to make my own way with art, thank you for this candid video

think the reason why ai will not replace human art is not because it couldn't but because humans ENJOY making art! there will be some type of movement in order to keep promoting human creativity. It'd be very dumb to let a robot do what you like to do. Ai is for what you DO NOT like to do. Like if AI could reproduce for us are we going to give up sex?

The briefing estipulates the image size, 3334 x 2449. It seems pretty small. Do you paint using a file with that size or do you create a bigger one and send them a reduced final image? (Keeping the original aspect ration, of course).

Such a great video. Thanks for guiding us through your creative process! If I may ask a silly question: there's a required canvas size in the official art brief from WotC. Do you work in the exact required area stated by them, or do you enlarge it to achieve more detail in your work?
